Food supplement containing calcium, vitamin D3 and vitamin K2, in the form of of effervescent granules, with sugar substitutes.
Growth and bone mineralization (the process of laying down minerals in the bones) in humans is the most intensive during childhood and adolescence. The highest amount of bone mass is reached around the thirtieth year of age; afterwards the amount of bone mass decreases. In women the decline of bone mass is accelerated by hormonal change, which occurs before and during the menopause. Therefore it is crucial for people of all ages to maintain a healthy diet with sufficient protein, minerals and vitamins, particularly calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K, as well as to be physically active on a daily basis, avoid smoking and drinking sweet fizzy drinks and alcohol, which significantly harm the bone mass.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has confirmed that calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K are essential to the maintenance of healthy bones.
Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human organism. 99% of calcium is stored in the bones and teeth.
Vitamin D contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus in the organism.
Vitamin K is a group of fat-soluble vitamins, the most important of which are vitamin K1 and K2. Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) is to be found in green leafy vegetables, but it does not absorb well, has a short bioavailability, and stays predominantly concentrated in the liver.
Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is produced by bacteria in a healthy intestinal environment, most of it, however, leaves the body with the stool. The richest source of vitamin K2 is the Japanese dish natto made of fermented soy beans. Vitamin K2 is not common in typical Western cuisine. Pro-Osteo plus contains a natural form of Vitamin K2, isomer MK-7, which is derived via a patented biofermentation process. This form has a better bioavailability and stays in the blood serum longer than other forms of vitamin K. MK-7 is an ideal source of vitamin K2 to reach its maximum impact in the body.
Vitamin K2 ensures that calcium gets deposited in the bones and teeth. In addition, it contributes to bone mineralization, and it is thus necessary for the formation and maintenance of normal bone structure. The synthesis of bone proteins, the most abundant of which is osteocalcin, is dependent on vitamin K. Osteocalcin has an important role in the control of bone mineralization and remodelling.
