Properties:
Lutein Premium contains a balanced combination of active substances for eye nutrition, such as lutein, zeaxanthin, zinc, vitamin E, and fish oil with DHA/EPA omega-3 fatty acids.
Out of more than 600 naturally occurring carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin are the only carotenoids present in high concentrations in the eye (including the macula, or the yellow spot in the eye, which is responsible for central and sharp vision, and also to a lesser extent in the retina and lens). Lutein and zeaxanthin are essential components of macular pigment. With aging, their concentration drops gradually. The body cannot synthesise them on its own and their sufficient intake with food therefore becomes important.
The lutein and zeaxanthin contained in Lutein Premium are natural carotenoids obtained from the Mexican marigold flower (Tagetes erecta). FloraGLO® Lutein and OPTISHARP® Natural Zeaxanthin are patented forms of lutein and zeaxanthin in free form in micronised crystals, which ensures their easier absorption. FloraGLO® Lutein and OPTISHARP® Zeaxanthin have been selected by the American National Eye Institute and used in the prestigious clinical study AREDS2.
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has confirmed that DHA omega-3 fatty acid (docosahexaenoic acid) and zinc contribute to the preservation of good vision. A favourable effect is achieved with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA.
Vitamin E and zinc contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. The term “oxidative stress” means impaired balance between the production of free radicals and their removal using the body’s natural catchers – cellular antioxidants. Free radicals get into the body from the environment because of radiation (UV, x-ray, and to a lesser degree electromagnetic radiation from television, radio, or telephones), through dust, smog particles, cigarette smoke, fried food, or they are formed in the body as by-products of inflammatory diseases. In our body they damage proteins and lipids and lead to the weakening of cells.
Recommended dosage: 1 capsule daily, best taken with meals and water.
